Fortnite - Prop Hunt Template

The Prop Hunt template was an exciting piece to work on because of the trust my lead placed in me. She created the structure of the penthouse and organized many of the rooms. I was given the opportunity to populate many of the spaces. We wanted the feeling of waking up the day after a party to give cause for props strewn throughout the penthouse, for maximized player engagement and hiding areas. Of course we needed to keep the theme child friendly. I really pushed for the birthday angle as we had a lot of opportunity and I mocked up a viable option and created the balloon clusters and board games using existing assets. Spread cups and pizza boxes and gifts. I wanted each room to not just feel used, but to feel like you could sit anywhere and pick up on the story that took place in each area. Little hidden gems of conversations, frustrations and laughs. This template utilizes only assets that any creator could use themselves, to give players a realistic expectation of the types of experiences they could craft in UEFN. One of my personal favorite areas to work on was actually the oddities wall. I felt the space needed an area of excentricity to balance out some of the more refined spaces. It also gave an interesting place for players to hide amongst the collection. The bedroom was also a fun space to organize. The partition from which a TV is hung, adding an obstacle that slows the players movement as they look through the items around the room. You can also see some of the assets I created for the Kid Laroid Concert, which you can find more details on in my Fortnite - Wild Dreams post. The botanical zen garden under the stairs was a nice touch our concept artist designed and I definitely enjoyed creating. The focus was on shape language for how it flowed with the stairs and into the long space of the hallway. Lastly I have to talk about the stairs. We wanted something unique for the pool space and I came up with the initial design for the spiral, which our concept artist iterated on as we developed this level. It took more than a few tries to nail the collisions for a smooth run, but it was definitely worth the result. Overall this was a fun level and I have to thank my lead, our concept artist, art director and of course our client for giving me the opportunity to take part in set dressing the template.
